Installing Exhaust Shutters
Exhaust shutters – Make sure your window is square. Measure the upper corner of the opposite lower corner on both sides. If it is the same, the window is the square. If there is more than a half inch difference, your window is not square and you should proceed to the second part of this article to install your shutters on the outside of the window.
Make sure your window jamb is deep enough for exhaust shutters. Measure the depth of the window frame from the front to the nearest obstacle in the back (egg lock or handle). There must be about one and a half to two inches of depth to install your shutters inside your window jam. If not, proceed to the next section. Measure the inside height and width of your window opening. If you only cover the bottom half of your window, measure to the center where you would like your gaps to end. Measure in three places and use the biggest measurements to buy your shutters.

Buy your exhaust shutters and cut as needed. You can have gaps fit or you can cut them to the right size with a saw or flight. Follow all instructions on the packaging for proper trimming of your shutters. Hold your shutter up to your window and mark where the boreholes are for the hinges. Way ends down and drill pilot projects holes. Move your shutter and tighten it, making sure it is safe. Use a thin piece of shim wood along windows so that you do not install shutters that touch or scratch the threshold.
